The Very Start…

I was born January 16th 1988 in Seriate (BG), Italy, and by the end of April I was riding on my father's boat as he was trying to learn how to swerve on one ski.
I was three months old, and I had never shed a tear on a boat then, and I have not shed a tear since.
Obviously I have been angry at my skiing a bunch of times, and such moments will keep coming as I will keep competing.
But the journey that brought me here, skiing against heroes of our sport, is full of joy.
So here it is…

The first goofy turns. Already so much fun…

I started skiing at 7 years old, and the patient person who spent days teaching me how to get off the water was Claudio Benatti. Claudio coached me all the way up to 41off and he is hands down one of the most knowledgeable and visionary coaches on this planet. Yet, I still owe him for helping me get the feeling of a deep water start, something a lot of people can coach but very few can patiently repeat for a few days in a row…

Yes, I was not the most talented kid around the lake, but skiing was really convenient. In fact, skiing allowed me to go to the lake where dad started learning the slalom course, a place with a ton of activities. Beach volley, beach soccer, canoe, foosball, and swimming to cite a few. I quickly learned that if I wanted to have a fun weekend, all I had to do was to say "Hey dad, can I come ski?"
My dad never forced me to ski once there, and this single attitude is one of the things I am most grateful for in my career. I was allowed to figure out whether skiing was my athletic call or if it was just a fun activity to do in the summer.

It took me three years to realize that I loved skiing so much that I was going to compete and take things seriously. Although, to be fair, the two episodes happened in reverse order…

to be continued…
